How To Volunteer

What is Needed to Volunteer at Carevan Wagga Inc.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time and effort to help with Carevan Wagga Inc. We are always in need of more volunteers for our programmes.

All potential volunteers must attend:

  • An Information Session – This will allow you to decide if Carevan volunteering is right for you.
  • An Induction Session – This will be held the following fortnight to cover volunteer training and induction.

Once you have completed both of these and provided the following documentation, you will be able to be put on a list of volunteers.

Please note when doing your documentation with the Police Check and Working with Children Check you may need to provide identification that you might not have, this will cost you money, even though the cost of the checks will be little or none.

To be a part of Carevan start the volunteer documentation process:

Step 1

You will need:

  • A current Police Check (mandatory). These can be accessed at:
    • The Centre for Volunteering. It is the Peak Body for Volunteering in NSW. They have partnered with the NSW Police Force to offer volunteers and organisations a national police check at the reduced rate of $15.00. To do this enter into the Centre for Volunteering website (www.volunteering.com.au); go into Resources & Tools; Scroll down to National Police Check; Follow the instructions until you see Apply – for Individuals.
    • “The organisation that you work for [Carevan] will determine the acceptable timeframe in which they will accept a certificate” (NSW Police website – accessed 14/04/2024).

  • A current Working with Children Check (mandatory). To apply go to:
    • Follow the instructions in “How to Apply”.
    • The form you will print off IS NOT the WWCC – you will need to take the printed form plus your identification documents to Service NSW.
    • This is valid for 5 years and is free to volunteers.
    • (In these applications, please select under the heading ‘Purpose for Check’ as Volunteer) and the ‘Child Related Sector’ as Clubs or other bodies providing services to children).

  • A current Safe Food Handling Certificate
    • DoFoodSafely is found on an on-line Victorian website
(dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au). Please read the topics before starting the test. It is free and must be completed by you and you have to achieve 90% or more to pass. Once you do, they will send you an email of your certificate. A copy of this needs to be sent to us.

  • These are desired, but not essential:
    • A current First Aid Certificate
    • A current NSW Driver’s Licence

Step 2

  • Check all details on your Volunteer Registration Form.
  • Complete the section at the bottom of the form which lists the various ways you might prefer to assist in the Carevan programme.

Step 3

Once you have completed your training, a hard copy will have to be placed on your file of your Police Check, Working with Children Check and Food Safety Check.

If you have any questions regarding this information or need support with any of these steps please do not hesitate to email us ([email protected]) or ring Wendy on 0444 554 588.

We look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your time at Carevan!!
